The Robert E. Shepherd Scholarship Fund was established in 1977 to honor one of the founding fathers and most influential members of the Ceramic Tile Layers Union, Local 67 of Illinois. Holding the highest position in the local union and named a vice-president of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, his vision was instrumental to the growth and success of the union movement. This scholarship continues his legacy of helping proud union families prosper.

On behalf of the Officers and members of Administrative District Council 1 of Illinois, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to our members who this year have achieved 50, 40 and 25 years of service and commitment to the union. Without your many years of hard work and support, the Local and its members would not be where we are today.

On this Veteran's Day, we want to salute and express our profound appreciation to our Veteran members and all Veterans throughout this country. Your unwavering courage, sacrifice and dedication have allowed all Americans to enjoy freedoms we at times take for granted.

We are very happy and proud to announce our own Liliana Calderon, Journeyperson Bricklayer, has been honored with receiving the North America's Buiding Trades Unions Tradeswomen Heroes Award.

This award was created in a joint effort between NABTU’s Tradeswomen’s Committee and Apprenticeship and Training Committee to congratulate and spotlight the dedicated tradeswomen within NABTU’s affiliate unions.

Robert E. Shepherd was the President of the Ceramic Tile Layers Local 67 and later selected to be the Vice President of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers. Each year the R.E. Shepherd Scholarship Fund awards five $5,000 scholarships to the children of union members. We are happy to announce the recipients of the 2020 R.E. Shepherd college scholarships:

Saige Heelein, who will be attending Bradley University.

Samuel Premak, who will be attending University of Iowa.

Shannon Ranialli, who will be attending Illinois State University.

On July 1, 2020 Mike Lowery retired as Secretary-Treasurer of the District Council.

Upon his retirement, and according to the ADC constitution I have appointed Mike Volpentesta to complete the remainder of the term.

I look forward to working with Mike as we continue the work of representing the membership to the best of our ability.

Fraternally,

President Allen
