Labor Day Message from President Volpentesta

Dear Union Brothers & Sisters:

On this Labor Day holiday I am requesting that at some point over the holiday weekend that you pause for a moment to reflect on where you've been and where you are going in support of the labor movement and the ADC. In case you are not aware, we are part of the oldest continuously operating trade union in North America - The "Bricklayers Union."  The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers was founded in 1865 during a great wave of blue-collar union formation in the 1860s. Just as in the 1860s We are on the precipice of change, in which the direction is up to you! Not long ago we narrowly avoided destruction under the regime of an anti-union governor. That was our wake-up call. No longer can we stand idly by. This is greater than party lines. Our Union, founded in the 1860s, has been under attack on many occasions. Each time it was our members and leaders who fought for its future. I would like to ask that you reflect on the accomplishments of our past union leaders and workers who were there before us - and then consider what lies ahead of us as union members. This November at the ballot there will be a question for the Workers' Rights Amendment. I'm asking each of you to vote YES!  This Amendment will take the power of Workers' Rights out of the hands of politicians and secure a voice for workers in Illinois, guaranteeing workers' rights to organize and negotiate pay raises, raising wages and benefits for all Illinois workers. The Amendment will ensure that workers can speak out about dangerous situations without fear of retaliation.  It will provide first responders with the training they need to safely protect us; the Amendment will protect us from anti-worker laws that make it easier to lower pay while giving CEOs raises. This is our time, and our responsibility to fight for Workers’ Rights. Vote YES for Workers' Rights!!!! Election Day is Tuesday November 8, 2022,  Early voting statewide starts: October 24th-November 7th, 2022

It was great seeing everyone at the ADC 1 annual barbecue. A beautiful night with plenty of food, drinks, and camaraderie.  I want to encourage everyone to continue attending your Union meetings.
