Message from President Allen

April 1, 2020

To all members:

INFORMATION REGARDING THE COVID - 19  Shelter In Place Order

CONSTRUCTION WORK IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE GOVERNORS SHELTER IN PLACE Order.

The Governor has deemed Construction Work as essential, and JOBSITES WILL NOT BE SHUT DOWN.

Members who choose to go to work may do so.

This week I have been questioned by numerous members who are concerned about their health on the job sitesThey’ve asked, ‘If they refuse to go to work would they be able to collect unemployment compensation’?

I had a conference call with the state this afternoon and they have relaxed the rules on this.

If you can document your concerns about the job site, (lack of clean washrooms, hand sanitizers too many bodies in a close-quarter, etc.) you may apply for unemployment compensation.

If you must stay home to care for your children due to the closing of the schools, you too may apply for unemployment compensationand the contractors cannot deny your request.

For more details go to the IDES website:  https://www2illinois.gov/ides

Members may still reach their Business Reps on their cell phones with any questions you may have.

Our Union office and Fund offices are closed to the public and not open to anyone other than the employees until further notice.  If you need to contact your Health & Welfare Fund office, please contact them directly at:
